Judge, Jury, & Executioner (2013-07-22)

It seems to be an on-going series of court cases that the media will select and report the events to the general population. The population is given the facts that the media chooses to distribute to its readers. Based on the news reports, the general population will come up with their own verdict based on the events given to them by the media. At the end of the trial, there may or may not be a public outrage over the verdict that the jury has decided for the individual. Continue reading

The Skyrocketting Cost of a Phone (2013-05-17)

From Phone-Old-300x199  TO >>  Phone-New-300x300

For quite a long while, the basic home service price of the telephone was $20. The competition continued to drive the price further down to today’s rate of $10 a month. After you add taxes and whatnot, you’re likely to have a phone bill approximately $20 per month. This roughly translates into a total cost of $240 per YEAR. Continue reading

My Fitness [Diet] Pal (2013-05-10)

myfiticonFor the past few months, I’ve been utilizing an iPhone app called MyFitnessPal. In a nutshell, it is a calorie counter. The user will input their vital stats and the app will return a recommended calorie allowance. The user has the option to raise or lower the allowance based on how much weight they would like to gain or loose. Users are then able to log their daily food intake and see their allotted pool start to decline as food choices are made. An additional bonus is that users are able to raise their daily allowances if they add exercise. If you’re out of calories and really want a popsicle, the user can walk a mile or two to raise their calorie allowance, have their popsicle, and not blow their daily goal. Continue reading

Held Hostage by Contractors (2013-04-26)

Before moving to my new home, there were a few things that I wanted to accomplish before moving my possessions into the home. This included painting, carpeting, replacing switches & receptacles,  and ozone treatment.

The painters were great, even though my significant other was on a spree of picking out a dozen or so colors. Their crew worked for 3-4 days in patching walls, removing wall paper, and repainting. They even came back to touch-up the work after the carpet installers and movers had rolled through the house. Continue reading

A Business of One (2013-03-15)

Remembering back to an old economics class, the teacher stated that businesses provide a good or service to a client in return for some form of compensation. Vendors and suppliers may provide the necessary resources to a business to sell to / use for their clients. These concepts can be applied to an individual, a household, or a large corporation. Selling a home (2013-03-15)

I’ve started the process of selling my home, located in Chalmette, LA. To facilitate the process, I decided to list my home with a realtor. It was a great decision since the realtor was already working with a potential buyer that happened to fall in love with my current home. Now the extra work begins – inspections, repairs, abundant amount of documentation, etc.

One mistake that I’ve made when building the home was installing gas-insulated windows manufactured by Accu-weld. The salesman sold me on the concept of gas-insulated windows and the lifetime warranty. Since 2007, the manufacturer has filed bankruptcy and all lifetime warranties have been voided. I’ve tried a local glass repair company and the end result was that it would be cheaper to install new windows than attempt to repair the windows I currently have installed. Lucky for the new owners, they will have a house with new windows.

Hello 2013! (2013-02-13)

It’s almost 2 full months into the new year, and I’m just getting around to blogging. My apologies for the delay, but other priorities in life needed to be addressed. In the coming months, I will be relocating from my current home as my current job office will be moving from New Orleans, LA to Covington, LA. I welcome the change and look forward to a much shorter commute.
